Overview

Artificial intelligence can transform organisations, yet most projects never progress beyond the pilot stage. Globally, 74% of companies report they have not achieved or scaled meaningful value from AI, and only one in ten reaches full deployment at scale.

Drawing on the peer-reviewed AI Implementation Compass (Journal of Business Research, 2025), this Directors’ Deep Dive session will explore the eight governance “navigation points” that help boards turn pilots into sustained performance.

Elsamari Botha, Associate Professor at the University of Canterbury, will share lessons from real-world AI implementation projects. She will examine why early rollouts often stall, and how technical debt, cultural scepticism and regulatory exposure can undermine results for years.

You will assess whether your organisation is truly “AI ready”, discover the governance principles shared by high-performing adopters, and leave with a five-step oversight playbook to maximise long-term return on investment.

Directors’ Deep Dive events are smaller, interactive sessions where you are encouraged to ask questions and contribute your perspectives.
