Overview

School boards are among New Zealand’s most visible and community-connected governance bodies. They oversee significant assets, employment responsibilities, financial performance and public accountability, often with volunteer trustees from diverse backgrounds.

Many of the challenges they face are shared across the public sector. Questions of stewardship, transparency, board capability, stakeholder expectations and the boundary between governance and management are familiar to directors of Crown entities, tertiary institutions, councils and council-controlled organisations.

Join the Public Sector Governance Shared Interest Group for a webinar exploring governance at the frontline of communities and public services. Drawing on insights from experienced school trustees, this discussion will examine what school boards and other public sector boards can learn from one another about building trust, exercising effective oversight and delivering long-term value in highly visible environments.
