IoD Digital Credentials
At the IoD, we see learning as a lifelong journey – one that supports directors to stay current, capable and confident in their roles. To support directors in their continuous learning, we are introducing digital credentials that recognise a range of learning, both formal and informal.
Digital credentials offer a simple, credible way to demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and best practice governance. Open badges are web-enabled versions of a credential, certification or learning outcome which can be verified in real-time, online. They can be shared on LinkedIn, in email signatures or on CVs – providing a visible way to demonstrate your engagement with good governance.
We have partnered with Credly by Pearson to deliver our digital badges. Credly hosts one of the world’s largest and most trusted digital credential platforms, helping organisations recognise verified knowledge, skills and capabilities.
What digital credentials do we currently offer?
We now offer digital credential badges for our face-to-face, online and blended courses. These are being issued to all attendees who have completed a course since 1 January 2024.

The Chartered Member Assessment (CMA) badge marks a significant milestone on the Chartered Member pathway. It recognises your achievement in completing a rigorous, standards-based assessment that demonstrates your governance capability, sound judgement, and commitment to professional excellence.
The CMA badge allows directors to visibly showcase their progress towards becoming a Chartered Member, signalling to boards, peers, and stakeholders their dedication to continuous learning and professional development. This badge is available exclusively to IoD members who have successfully completed their Chartered Member Assessment. Learn more here.
The Chartered Member or Fellow badge recognises your professional achievement as a Chartered Member or Fellow of the Institute of Directors. It signals to boards, stakeholders and peers that you have demonstrated governance capability and a commitment to high standards of practice. This digital badge allows members to showcase their professional standing in a visible and credible way. Learn more here.
The Climate Governance Credential is supported by Chapter Zero New Zealand, the home of climate governance at the IoD. This new initiative allows directors to visibly demonstrate their annual commitment to climate governance learning. The credential is available exclusively for IoD members and is valid for one year from the date of issue. Learn more here.
