Te Ara Tāwhaki eligibility criteria
All applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Be an IoD member (or, if selected, become an IoD member)
- Have been in an NFP governance role for fewer than five years
- Hold a current NFP governance role
- Open to learning and sharing your governance experience
Other requirements
The following requirements must be met in order to be eligible to apply for the programme:

- You have the right to remain in New Zealand to work and study for a period of at least five years.
- You have never been disqualified as a company director in New Zealand, nor overseas.
- You are able to commit the time to participate in the programme. This means that you:
- Will make time to meet regularly with your mentor (approximately 6-7 times over the 10-month period)
- Commit time to properly prepare for mentoring sessions and undertake any necessary work allocated to you by your mentor between sessions
- Are not planning to be overseas for any significant period of time between February to October 2026
- You are not already a director on the board of an NZX, public sector or private company.
- You are not currently participating in the IoD Emerging Directors, Mentoring for Diversity, Tautua Pasifika Mentoring Programme nor Future Directors programmes.
- You have read and understood the application criteria and terms and conditions.
