Course description

Strong governance depends on more than good decisions. It also relies on clear processes, accurate records and trusted support behind the scenes.

This self-paced course is designed for governance support professionals, company secretaries, board administrators and others who help boards work effectively. Across four practical modules, you will build your understanding of governance foundations, board processes, professional judgement and the tools that support consistent practice.

You will explore how to prepare agendas and board papers, support effective meetings, record decisions, manage conflicts of interest and maintain governance records. The course also considers how to recognise risk, exercise sound judgement, communicate with the chair and know when an issue should be escalated.

Developed for the Aotearoa New Zealand context, the course draws on relevant legal duties, good practice guidance and te ao Māori perspectives. You will finish with practical templates, frameworks and approaches you can apply in your governance support role.
