Overview

Volunteers are at the heart of not for profit organisations but how do we develop better management practises to ensure their continued involvement but also keep them safe and supported. Join us after work for a fireside chat with Nick Tongue, Chair of Swimming New Zealand, as he discusses with our Branch Chair, SJ Weir,  the challenges he has faced with managing volunteers and the lessons he’s learnt along the way.

Nick Tongue

Nick Tongue is a member of the IoD and has nine years not-for-profit experience on the board of Swimming New Zealand, undertaking the role of Chair for four years, and is also on the board of Aquatics New Zealand. He has served as an executive director for the last 14 years on corporate boards as part of Panasonic companies comprising of international board members. A background in Sales and Marketing has seen Nick working across a variety of sectors -  energy, FMCG, service and maintenance, construction and manufacturing sectors. 

In the sporting sector Nick plays an active part in the sector Chairs Governance group and works closely with all major stake holders from Government agencies such as High Performance Sport NZ, Sport NZ, Water Safely NZ and the NZ Olympic committee, through to sponsors and funding agencies. Nick is also a member of the High Performance Advisory Panel as well as a selector for New Zealand’s senior and junior Olympic and Paralympic swimming teams.
