Artificial intelligence is changing how audit and risk teams gather information, identify emerging issues and provide assurance to boards. Used well, it can strengthen analysis, detect patterns and anomalies, improve monitoring and support more timely, informed decision-making.
Join the Audit and Risk Shared Interest Group for a panel discussion on how AI is being applied across audit and risk work today. Our panelists will explore where AI is adding value, where its limitations remain, and what boards and audit and risk committees need to understand when assessing the quality and reliability of AI-enabled insights.

MInstD
David is the Chief Internal Auditor for ASB, working closely with the Board and Executive team in critical areas of strategy and risk. Prior to ASB, David was a Partner at KPMG for eleven years leading the Auckland Consulting division and specialising in Governance and Risk. He is a Fellow member of Chartered Accountants Australia and NZ, Life member of the Institute of Internal Auditors of New Zealand and was New Zealand Internal Auditor of the Year in 2011.
Having worked extensively overseas with Shell Corporation and Microsoft Corp, David has worked with a wide range of Boards and organisations in an advisory capacity across a number of sectors and has held a number of Director roles. Before KPMG, David led the Risk, Internal Audit, and Compliance teams at Telecom for five years reporting directly to the Board and prior to that, in a similar role with Fisher & Paykel Appliances where he was also the secretary to the Audit & Risk Committee.
David has sat on the Board of Trustees for Totara Hospice since 2020 and Totara Hospice Foundation since 2025; he is Chair of the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee.
David has been a key facilitator for the Institute of Directors and supports the Audit & Risk Committees Course and Risk Essentials. He believes good governance is about drawing upon the collective experience of the Board and using that to challenge Management proactively and constructively. It needs to be highly engaged and focused on things that matter.
To finish off David’s repertoire of skills, in a distant past he performed on Stars in their Eyes as Robbie Williams back in 2008…he didn’t win.
MInstD
Mads is a Member of the IoD, and brings over 30 years of experience as a technology entrepreneur and CEO of his tech startups, along with C-suite leadership roles at companies such as IBM, Broadcom, Vodafone, and Google. Mads holds an MBA in International Marketing Strategies from Copenhagen Business School and another in International Strategy and Corporate Finance from London Business School.
Mads is Christchurch based and has over 30 years of governance experience serving as a director or chair across companies in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the UK, and the USA.

Darby Healey is a seasoned professional with a distinguished career at KPMG. Having joined the firm in 1997, Darby has amassed extensive experience and expertise working within both New Zealand and the United States. Throughout the years, she has held several key leadership positions, including serving as an Audit Partner, Head of Audit Quality, Audit Risk Partner, and Ethics and Independence Partner. She is currently a member of the KPMG NZ Board.
Darby has played a pivotal role in driving and maintaining high standards of audit quality within KPMG. Her strategic oversight and dedication to upholding professional ethics and independence have contributed to the firm's reputation for delivering exceptional service to clients.
CMInstD
Monique Forbes is a customer and growth executive with over 25 years’ experience across marketing, customer, digital and customer strategy. She brings a strong understanding of the evolving risk landscape, with experience spanning emerging technologies, data privacy, regulatory and reputational risk. Alongside her executive career Monique is an Independent Director for GetHomeSafe Ltd and Trustee for Waka Pacific Trust.
