Overview

Centralisation and consolidation are front-of-mind for directors and senior officials as government restructures reshape the public sector.

In this session, IoD committee member and Infometrics’ chief executive Brad Olsen will guide a conversation with David Smol, using a series of questions to keep discussion lively and focused.

David will share insights from his extensive leadership and governance experience, including as Chief Executive of the Ministry of Economic Development and as the inaugural Chief Executive of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, where he oversaw its establishment.

Now chair of Earth Sciences New Zealand and a director of Contact Energy, NZTA, the Cooperative Bank, and Tait International, David also contributes to the Council of Victoria University of Wellington and several senior governance committees across government.

This session offers directors an opportunity to hear first-hand perspectives on the drivers, risks and opportunities of government consolidation, and what it means for governance in today’s environment.
