Explore how to identify systemic and reputational risks, protect trust, and build organisational resilience.
Not every risk fits neatly into a register. Boards are navigating risks that are increasingly interconnected, fast-moving and difficult to quantify. Shifting stakeholder expectations, geopolitical uncertainty, technological disruption, organisational culture and declining public trust can combine in ways that traditional risk frameworks may not fully capture.
This online Women Directors’ Network Mentor Circle will explore how directors can look beyond the risk register to identify, assess and respond to complex systemic and reputational risks.
Facilitated by Jackie Lloyd, Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy, and Dame Jo Brosnahan, the session will combine insights from experienced directors with practical discussion in small breakout groups. Participants will consider how boards can strengthen oversight, recognise early warning signs, test the quality of information and make sound decisions when risks and consequences are uncertain.

Jackie Lloyd is the immediate past president of the Institute of Directors.
A life-long interest in the relationship between human behaviour and business performance led Jackie through an executive career as the global human resources director for the New Zealand Dairy Board and NZMP Fonterra, to consulting and governance.
She is currently chair of Naylor Love Enterprises Ltd and director of CentrePort Ltd and The Tatua Co-operative Dairy Company Ltd. Jackie is also Deputy Chair of the Lion Foundation.
Jackie’s previous governance roles include AgResearch, Kiwi Group Holdings, NZ Post, New Zealand Cricket and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

Dame Patsy served as the Governor-General of New Zealand for five years from 2016 - 2021.
Trained as a lawyer, she has had extensive experience in non-executive governance and business consulting roles in both the public and private sector, and with creative and charitable organisations. She is currently Chair of the Climate Change Commission and the NZSO Foundation. She is a Trustee of the Malaghan Institute for Medical Research and the Aspen Institute of NZ.
Dame Patsy has previously served as a non-executive director of Air New Zealand, NZ Post, SkyCity Entertainment and Telecom New Zealand, as Chair of the NZ Film Commission and Deputy Chair of NZ Transport Agency and was a Chief Crown Negotiator for Treaty Settlements. Last year she co-led the negotiations on behalf of the Crown to settle the long running litigation Stafford v The Attorney General relating to the Nelson tenths dispute.
She is Patron of the, NZ Centre for Brain Research, Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui, the Wellington Sculpture Trust, NZ Opera, Hospice Wairarapa and He Ringa Āwhina – the Wellington Regional Charity Hospital Trust.

Jo is an experienced board Chair with a particular passion and expertise for leadership and governance. She is currently Chair of Maritime New Zealand (the nation’s maritime agency), Chair of Harrison Grierson (NZ urban engineering and planning consultancy), Chair of Heritage NZ and Chair of the Ambassadors for Leadership NZ. Past governance roles over a range of sectors have included Chair of Northpower Fibre (ultra-fast broadband), Chair of Landcare Research, the board of Housing New Zealand, Chair of Taitokerau Education Trust and the board of the Auckland Museum.
Jo was the founder of Leadership New Zealand, which has over 700 Alumni across the diversity of NZ, was Chair of the LNZ Trust for more than a decade and now Chairs the Ambassadors. As a Harkness Fellow and Aspen Scholar, Jo spent a year researching leadership in the USA. She researches and writes about leadership, develops and facilitates leadership and governance programmes, and undertakes board reviews.
Jo believes that governance is leadership in action and for New Zealand to succeed, inspiring and capable leaders are required at both governance and executive levels.
A Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors, Jo was previously the CEO of the Northland Regional Council and of the Auckland Regional Council.
She received the honour of Dame Companion of the NZ Order of Merit in the 2023 Kings Birthday and Coronation Honours for services to governance and business.
