Private business boards often operate in a unique space where ownership, management and governance can overlap. This session explores the practical realities of navigating board dynamics when shareholders, directors and executives are closely connected - and when the boardroom is evolving from informal discussion to more structured governance.

Join Greg Allnutt of Pivot & Pace for a practical conversation on common governance challenges in private businesses, including the role of the Chair when they are also a major shareholder, how to shift conversations when directors are also managers, and what changes when a business outgrows its board or transitions from founder-led leadership to a CEO-led model.

Designed for directors, owners and senior leaders in private businesses, this event will offer insights, peer discussion and practical takeaways to help strengthen governance conversations and support more effective board performance.

Directors' Deep Dive events are smaller interactive discussion-style sessions where you will be encouraged to ask questions and actively contribute your perspectives.

Greg Allnutt

Greg Allnutt, MNZM, is a Partner and Strategic Advisor with more than 30 years’ leadership experience across the military, public, private and not-for-profit sectors. A former New Zealand Army leader, Greg served operationally in Angola, Bougainville, Kuwait, East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq, and was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2006 for his contribution to strategy, strategy execution and leadership with the NZDF in Afghanistan.

Greg helps leaders and organisations adapt, grow and thrive through change. His work focuses on the executive-level capabilities that set high-performing organisations apart: strategy and execution, executive leadership, organisational culture and stakeholder engagement. He has worked with businesses across construction, manufacturing, IT, professional services, health, wholesale, automotive, retail and export sectors, bringing practical insight, strategic thinking and decision-making frameworks that challenge the status quo and support meaningful breakthroughs.
