Join Dame Jo Brosnahan as she moderates a practical conversation on how not-for-profit boards can help their organisations navigate difficult times, make informed choices and build resilience for the future.
Hear from three speakers with different perspectives on what it takes to survive and adapt. Through real stories from organisations that have faced significant challenges, we’ll explore how they have pivoted, what they learned and the difficult decisions they had to make.
We’ll also hear practical insights from a financial perspective on managing cashflow, funding and financial resilience, and the questions boards should be asking when times are tough.

Sina Moana Wendt ONZM, MInstD is an experienced governance leader and former Chief Executive with more than 30 years’ experience across the not-for-profit, public and commercial sectors. She is Chair of Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa and the Centre for Pacific Languages, and a Trustee of Leadership New Zealand, the New Zealand Opera Foundation and the Pacific Music Awards Trust. Her previous governance roles include Governor of RNZ and Council Member of Auckland University of Technology.
Sina has extensive experience leading and governing purpose-driven organisations through periods of financial pressure, transformation and growth. Her governance practice brings together strong commercial awareness, cultural intelligence and a commitment to organisational sustainability, community impact and equitable outcomes. She was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2022 for services to governance.
CFInstD
Dame Jo Brosnahan is a passionate New Zealander, committed to building strong inclusive communities through values-based leadership. Founder of Pūmanawa Kaiārahi o Aoteroa Leadership New Zealand, she has dedicated her career to developing courageous leaders and shaping better futures for Aotearoa.
With a background as CEO of both the Auckland and Northland Regional Councils, Jo now Chairs Maritime NZ, Harrison Grierson, Heritage NZ and the Leadership NZ Ambassadors. Her governance experience spans infrastructure, education, housing and science. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors and a national past president of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
Jo believes leadership grounded in humility, diversity and meaningful conversation is essential for thriving organisations and communities. A Harkness Fellow and Aspen Scholar, she continues to mentor, design and facilitate leadership programmes across New Zealand.
Recognised for her public service and governance leadership, she was awarded the QSO in 2005 and made a Dame in 2023.
