What happens when the gap between what an organisation promises and what it delivers becomes impossible to ignore?
What happens when the gap between what an organisation promises and what it delivers becomes impossible to ignore?
In her book When the Mirror Shatters, Dr Jacki Johnson draws on executive leadership experience, boardroom insight, major corporate failures, and research into ASX200 companies to challenge directors and executives to move beyond compliance, corporate rhetoric and good intentions towards genuine stakeholder value creation.
This is not another ESG book. It is a practical and evidence-based examination of leadership, governance, culture, risk, accountability and strategy, and why organisational promises can break when incentives, systems and accountability are misaligned.
Using examples including HIH Insurance, Rio Tinto, The Star Entertainment Group, Qantas, the Banking Royal Commission and the Christchurch earthquakes, Johnson shows that organisational failure is rarely caused by bad people alone. It often emerges from systemic weaknesses, leadership blind spots and fragmented accountability.
This webinar will explore what directors can do to recognise warning signs, test whether stakeholder promises are being delivered in practice, and strengthen governance before trust, legitimacy and value are damaged.
Dr Jacki Johnson is a respected director, facilitator and speaker on strategy, governance and business’s role in building a more resilient and sustainable future. A former CEO of IAG New Zealand, she led through the Christchurch earthquake recovery and served as President of the Insurance Council of New Zealand, working with Government, regulators and EQC on response and recovery settings.
Jacki is a Non-Executive Director of Community First Bank, Research Associate at the University of Wollongong, and Managing Director of Focusing Moments. Her book, When the Mirror Shatters, explores leadership, risk, reputation and the assumptions that shape decision-making. Her leadership has been recognised across Australia and New Zealand, including NZ Herald Business Leader of the Year and the ANZIIF Lifetime Achievement Award.
