Discover how Pacific ancestral intelligence strengthens leadership, improves decisions and prepares boards for Aotearoa’s future.
By 2048, Pasifika peoples are projected to make up 13 per cent of New Zealand’s population. Yet many boardrooms still look very different from the customers, employees and communities they serve.
This event explores what boards can learn from Pacific approaches to leadership, service, collective responsibility and decision-making.
Ancestral intelligence is the accumulated wisdom of peoples who navigated complexity, uncertainty and collective survival across generations. It offers practical ways to strengthen leadership, organisational culture and long-term performance.
Drawing on business research, organisational case studies and lessons from New Zealand sport, the session will examine why Pacific leadership is often overlooked by systems that reward individual visibility and self-promotion. It will also show how recognising cultural capability as a strategic asset can improve decision-making and leadership pipelines.
Facilitated by Venasio-Lorenzo (Vena) Crawley MInstD, the talanoa will challenge directors to see the future more clearly, examine the evidence and identify practical changes they can make in the boardroom.
MInstD
Raised in Auckland since he was 9, with Samoan heritage, Vena is a governance leader spanning eight sectors and three continents, fluent in five languages.
Known as a disruptive accelerant driving transformative, customer-centred change, he holds board roles across Listed, Government, NFP and Private entities. His out-of-the-box thinking created a successful executive career and international ventures.
Educated through Virginia State University, Darden School of Business, with an international BA and MBA from Steinbeis University (Germany) and the Berlin School of Creative Leadership - he applies global thinking to build a more interconnected and prosperous New Zealand.
