Overview

To mark International Women’s Day 2026, the Institute of Directors’ Women Directors Network invites members and guests to a special luncheon on the theme ‘Give to Gain’.

The session will explore how women in governance grow their impact by giving their time, experience and influence. The panel will reflect on what they have gained, personally and professionally, through service on boards, philanthropy, mentoring, and championing other women.

Join Victoria Carter ONZM CFInstD and Gráinne Troute CFInstD, in discussing the importance of backing women for board roles, creating opportunities for the next generation, and how reciprocity and generosity contribute to better decision making and stronger boardrooms.

The luncheon is designed to be practical and energising. Guests will have time for networking, guided table discussions, and Q&A with the panel, supporting the Women Directors Network focus on connection, role modelling and visible pathways into and through governance.

Whilst this is a Women Directors’ Network event, we welcome members and guests including allies who support greater gender diversity in governance.

Victoria Carter

CFInstD

Victoria Carter has had a successful and diverse career as a significant leader contributing to Auckland’s cultural, philanthropic and business communities, including as an Auckland City Councillor, the first woman President of the Northern Club, and founder of City Hop, New Zealand’s first 'cars by the hour' car share company.

She has over 25 years’ experience as a Chair, director or trustee of public listed, large privately owned companies, trusts, council entities, funding boards and substantial charitable organisations in the transport, tourism, education, property, health and arts sectors.  The common thread is building ventures, shaping better cities, communities and championing innovation.

Being of service, generosity and courage are a large part of Victoria’s life. Most recently she crusaded to save Laura Fegusson, the home for the physically disabled, ending up as Chair where she began the work to rebuild and recreate the vital facility that once did so much for Auckland’s physically disabled community.

In 2014, Victoria was made a Chartered Fellow of the NZ Institute of Directors. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Auckland.   In 2016 Victoria received a New Zealand Order of Merit ONZM for services to arts, business and the community.

Gráinne Troute

CFInstD

Gráinne is the IoD’s Auckland Branch Chair and sits on the IoD Council. She is currently a director of NZX-listed companies Tourism Holdings, Summerset Group and Investore Property Ltd and is an independent board member of the legal firm Duncan Cotterill and the New Zealand Automobile Association. She is also an appointed member of the NZX’s Corporate Governance Institute. In the not-for-profit sector, she has chaired Tourism Industry Aotearoa (during which time she also co-chaired the government’s Tourism Industry Transformation Plan) and Ronald McDonald House Charities. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Prior to her governance career, Gráinne had many years’ experience in senior executive roles, including as General Manager of Corporate Services at SKYCITY Entertainment Group and as Managing Director of McDonald’s Restaurants NZ.
