Overview

As global trade adapts to new tariff regimes and climate-related compliance frameworks, ESG has become a strategic imperative, not a discretionary add-on.

In this session, Phil Parkes, Group Director - ESG at HSE Global, will explore how boards can use ESG to navigate increasing trade complexity, manage emerging risks, and maintain long-term competitiveness.

Drawing on developments such as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), US tariff escalations, and tightening ESG disclosure requirements, Phil will discuss how these changes are affecting market access, supply chain resilience and investor expectations.

This session will encourage directors to reframe ESG as a value driver and core governance responsibility, not just a reporting obligation. As Phil puts it: “The window for cosmetic alignment has closed. ESG is now infrastructure.”
