Sharon Shea

Ngāti Haua, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Hine, Ngāti Hako

Sharon began her career as a lawyer and then moved into the health sector - where she held a range of senior management roles in government and non-government organisations focussed on Māori health improvement. Since 2002, Sharon has run a successful consulting business (Shea Pita and Associates Ltd) - where she is a director and principal consultant.

Sharon is widely recognised as a leader in the field of health and disability sector strategy and is particularly interested in reducing health, social, education, and economic inequities across all populations; especially with and for indigenous peoples and other populations who would benefit from support to realise social justice.

In 2018, Sharon established a provider ‘arm’ called Manawaroa Ltd. Manwaroa delivers two programmes: Puāwai and Manawaroa. Puāwai braids the ‘best of’ Te Ao Māori and trauma-informed psychoeducation methods to support caregivers and their whānau healing and wellbeing. Manawaroa is a programme that builds child, youth, adults, and whānau resilience. It focuses on whānau using and growing their strengths to meet, bounce back from and get in front of life’s challenges.

Sharon holds a variety of Board memberships (private and public) and fulfils Ministerial appointed roles. Most recently, Sharon chaired the Māori Expert Advisory Group to the Health & Disability System Review.

In 2019, Sharon was awarded a New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for services to Māori health and development.
