Overview

Recording date - 25 October 2022

We gathered in October to discuss how the New Zealand transport sector was responding to the climate challenge and embarking on the journey to net-zero.

In 2021, the global transport industry was responsible for approximately 7.7 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. In New Zealand, transport was the second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for 17 per cent of total domestic CO₂ emissions.

This Chapter Zero NZ webinar discussed the urgent action and system changes needed to put our transport emissions on the trajectory to a low-emissions future and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

Abby Foote of Freightways Limited and Kate Morrison of Christchurch Airport joined the session to share a director’s perspective on integrating climate considerations into strategy in the transport sector.

The session was highly relevant for those in the transport sector and offered insights and practical takeaways for the wider governance community.
