This guidance from the World Economic Forum (WEF), Board leadership for growth and resilience: Guiding principles for climate and nature governance, presents a refreshed set of principles to support boards in governing climate- and nature-related risks and opportunities. Developed in collaboration with the Chapter Zero Alliance (formerly Climate Governance Initiative) and Deloitte, the Principles extend and update the earlier climate governance framework to reflect the interconnected nature of climate and nature in long-term value creation and organisational resilience.

The four guiding principles are:

    • Principle 1 – Oversight and responsibility
    • Principle 2 – Strategy
    • Principle 3 – Risk and opportunity
    • Principle 4 – Disclosure and transparency

These Principles are designed to support boards with practical guidance, including considerations for board oversight, questions to inform boardroom discussion, and examples of how climate- and nature-related risks and opportunities can be integrated into governance, strategy and disclosure. They are intended as enabling tools rather than prescriptive rules, recognising that boards operate across different sectors, jurisdictions and governance contexts.
