Free to attend, this hui offers a welcoming space to connect, share stories and reflect on the realities of governance, while staying grounded in our values, relationships and collective leadership.

Focused on building a strong Māori governance community in Wellington, the facilitated hui will explore:

What support do Māori governors need?
What opportunities and challenges are we facing?
How can we uplift and support each other in our governance journeys?

This hui is intended to become a regular gathering, creating opportunities to build capability, confidence, connection and collective impact.

Tui Te Hau

MInstD

Tui Te Hau (Rongomaiwāhine, Te Arawa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) is an innovation strategist, governance leader and founder of Bird Island, an innovation consultancy focused on complex challenges, emerging technology and systems change. She is a Director of the Institute of Directors New Zealand and Chair of BATS Theatre.

Tui has more than 20 years’ leadership experience across economic development, international trade, Māori enterprise, entrepreneurship, technology, and the culture and heritage sectors. She has held senior roles with NZTE, Creative HQ, the National Library of New Zealand, Te Papa and Te Matarau a Māui.

Her work includes designing and leading innovation programmes such as Mahuki, Lightning Lab and Magnitude 7, alongside current work exploring AI, trusted digital systems and emerging technologies. Tui is also a Trustee of Endometriosis New Zealand and a member of Wellington City Council’s advisory group on technology, science, innovation and education.
