Overview

This practical, high-energy session places you in the role of a board facing a complex and fast-moving crisis.

Working in small groups, you will take on board roles to set direction, define risk appetite, and respond to escalating external pressure. As the situation evolves in real time, the simulation will test your ability to balance commercial realities with fairness, reputation, and long-term impact.

Led by experienced director and Chartered Fellow Trevor Burt, the session will also include a structured debrief to reflect on governance discipline, decision-making, and board and CEO dynamics under pressure.

This event is particularly suited to emerging directors looking to build confidence, sharpen their governance thinking, and gain practical experience in a safe but challenging environment.

Join us to strengthen your governance practice, expand your network, and experience the realities of the boardroom in action. Drinks and nibbles will be provided.

If this event is fully booked on the website, please contact Canterbury.Branch@iod.org.nz to be placed on the waiting list.
