Organisation description

Bring your governance experience to an organisation where every life matters.
Hōhepa Wellington is seeking two experienced governance professionals to join its Board and help shape the next chapter of an organisation with a deeply human purpose.

Based in Ōtaihanga on the Kāpiti Coast, Hōhepa Wellington supports intellectually disabled people to live meaningful, connected and fulfilling lives. Its approach is highly individualised and grounded in the principles of anthroposophy recognising the whole person, their unique strengths, contribution and potential.

At Hōhepa, support is about much more than care. It is about creating opportunities for people to belong, to participate, to build relationships, to contribute and to live with purpose. This is an opportunity to bring your governance experience to an organisation where thoughtful leadership can make a very real difference to people’s everyday lives.

Particular skills/competencies sought

The opportunity

We are looking for a governance professional who brings sound judgement, strategic thinking and the confidence to contribute constructively around the board table.

To complement the existing Board, we are interested in people who also bring experience or perspective in one or more of the following areas:

  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship management
  • Fundraising and philanthropy
  • Well-connected networks, particularly on the Kāpiti Coast
  • Advocacy or social policy
  • Property, construction and asset management
  • An understanding of the intellectual disability sector would be advantageous
  • An understanding of the rights of vulnerable people, and associated matters such as safeguarding and supported decision making.

You do not need to bring all of these. What matters is the depth of the contribution you can make.

What you will bring

We are looking for thoughtful and values-led applicants who bring curiosity, integrity and independent thinking, alongside the ability to work constructively and collaboratively with fellow directors and management. You will be joining a high-performing Board that is deeply committed to Hōhepa’s purpose and values.

You will connect strongly with Hōhepa’s vision of "every life fully lived" and its commitment to supporting people to live rich, meaningful and connected lives, with choice, dignity and a strong sense of belonging.

We welcome applications from the disabled community.

Commitment required

Meetings are held in Wellington or Kāpiti, bi-monthly in person.

Term

Renewable, Three-year term.
