Director home addresses update
MBIE has confirmed directors will be able to replace their home address with a service address on the Companies Register from 18 November.
MBIE has confirmed that directors will be able to replace their home address with a service address on the Companies Register from 18 November 2026, when the Companies (Address Information) Amendment Act comes into force.
The Ministry is developing an online application process. Directors will need to submit a statutory declaration stating that publication of their home address on the Register creates a risk of physical or mental harm to them, or to someone they live with.
MBIE has advised that the statutory declaration will not need to include detailed information and is developing a template to simplify the process. The declaration itself will be sufficient for MBIE to process the request under the Act.
Only current and upcoming directorships will be eligible. Directors will not be able to remove addresses associated with past directorships.
Directors joining a board, or serving on a board that is about to be incorporated and added to the Register, will be able to apply before their home address is published, rather than having to replace it after publication.
Further updates will be provided as implementation progresses ahead of 18 November, when the Act takes effect.
