Boardroom Autumn 2021
From Dog Point Vineyard in the south to game developer Ninja Kiwi in the north, we discover how IoD members are leading their organisations ...
Understand the complex architecture and regulations of the specific operating environment to successfully navigate a crown board.
Many crown-owned entities deliver essential services for New Zealanders, and have board composed of external members. As a director on a public sector board you need to understand the ministers’ role, participate in setting the direction of the public sector entity, monitor and review crown entity operations and performance, and manage risks on behalf of the Crown. It is vital you have a clear understanding of your role, responsibilities, and the challenges of a public sector board.
In this one-day course you will explore the differences between the governance role in a private company and best practice stewardship in a public sector organisation.
At the end of the course you will have better understanding of the Ministers role, their accountabilities and your part in in an open, transparent, fair and accountable culture.
The transition from private company directorship to public sector governance can be challenging and it requires a good understanding of the processes and drivers inside government.
You will gain a range of practical tools on how to navigate within a public sector board.
8.30am to 5.00pm
Directors with private-sector governance experience who are in, or considering, a governance role in the public sector.
You should have completed the one-day course Governance Essentials, or have equivalent governance experience.
