Overview

Do you have skills and experience that would be useful to a board? Have at least 3 years’ experience in a senior management role, a professional business advisor, or sitting on an NFP board?

If you are a member of one of our branches and in the early stages of your governance career then come along to hear about the Emerging Director award from the organising committee and our current EDA recipient.

Manea Sweeney

CMInstD

Manea’s career has focused broadly across environmental, planning and engagement in the Infrastructure industry, working across New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. She loves complex uncertain environments.

Manea won IoD's emerging director award for 2023.

She has served a 3-year term as executive director on the Tonkin + Taylor Group Board, is an observing Board Member of Experience Wellington, and is on the project Boards for Te Ara Tupua Alliance (delivering the shared path from Nga Uranga to Petone in Wellington) and the East Coast Recovery Alliance, delivering over $500M of rebuild in road and rail following cyclone Gabrielle.

She is a proud mum of a three-year-old, who provides more challenges (and joy) than all of her other roles combined. Manea is also undertaking her Masters in Māori and Indigenous Leadership through the University of Canterbury.

Rachel Farrant

CMInstD

Rachel Farrant is a partner at BDO Wellington Ltd and has over 25 years’ experience in chartered accountancy and business advisory services.

She currently holds the following governance roles: Chairperson: The Property Group Limited, Director:  Skellerup Group Limited,  Papa Rererangi i Puketapu Limited (New Plymouth Airport), Director and Audit Committee Chair: Fairway Resolution Limited.  Member of the IOD Wellington Branch Committee.

Nick Evans

CMInstD

Nick is an Associate Director at PwC, specialising in Digital Strategy and Transformation. He has led large-scale transformation programmes across New Zealand’s public sector. His career also spans international projects, including work with NASA and Redwire on the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission, and International Space Station (ISS) infrastructure upgrades. With experience at the intersection of governance, digital transformation, and innovation, Nick is recognised for navigating complex environments and delivering long-term strategic impact.

Nick’s current roles include Chairperson of Te Puna Foundation, Board Member of YMCA Central, Chair of YMCA Central’s Risk and Audit Committee, and Committee Member of the Cancer Society Wellington.

Nick won IoD's emerging director award for 2025.
