Overview

This interactive session will help you strengthen two important foundations of your governance journey: your governance CV and your governance value proposition, a concise introduction that clearly communicates the skills, experience, and perspective you bring to the board table.

We will explore what distinguishes a governance CV from an executive CV, provide practical guidance on positioning yourself for board opportunities, and share tips on how to maximise opportunities through the Institute of Directors' Board Appointment Service.

If you already have a governance CV, please bring it with you so you can review and discuss it with your peers. If you have not yet developed one, that is absolutely fine - the workshop will provide you with the tools and guidance to get started.

Before the session, take a moment to consider what makes you stand out as a potential director and the value you could bring to a board. A little preparation will help you get the most from the workshop.

Michelle oversees end-to-end director search and recruitment, Director Vacancies, Director CV reviews and facilitated workshops. With more than 20 years’ experience in executive search and talent acquisition, she brings deep expertise in board recruitment across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. Michelle has partnered with NZX-listed companies, Crown entities, local government, and community organisations to deliver strategic appointments that strengthen governance capability and diversity.

Known for her discretion, strategic insight, and commercial acumen, she has supported major national initiatives including Three Waters Reform, the National Transition Unit within the Department of Internal Affairs, the Department of Corrections’ electronic monitoring programme, and Waka Kotahi’s organisational transformation.
