Overview

Boards are navigating a risk environment where geopolitical disruption, AI, cyber risk, physical climate impacts and workforce pressures are increasingly interconnected - and where decisions often need to be made before there is certainty.

Join the Institute of Directors for a discussion on the findings from the IoD Risk Survey 2026 and what they mean for how boards govern risk in practice.

The survey shows that many risks are already shaping board decisions, but the depth of response varies. Cyber and technology disruption, for example, actively shaped decisions for 50.1% of respondents, while only 21.9% had quantified its potential financial impact. And while 59.2% had discussed business continuity and disaster recovery in response to climate and natural hazard risk, only 17.0% had undertaken scenario analysis or stress testing - raising questions about how far boards are testing resilience beyond the immediate response.

Our panel will explore how boards are moving from identifying risk to making better decisions: which assumptions need testing, when scenario analysis or financial modelling will add value, what information is enough to act, and where different risks are beginning to collide across strategy, capital allocation, people, technology and resilience.

What should be elevated from the risk register to the boardroom? Which risks warrant deeper analysis or external challenge? And how can boards make sure risk reporting helps them make decisions rather than simply generating more reporting?

Join us for practical perspectives on how boards are challenging assumptions, testing resilience and making decisions when risk is moving faster than certainty.
