Overview

Financial stability means having a strong and resilient financial system that provides the financial services we all rely on, even when under stress. Since 2004, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand - Te Pūtea Matua (RBNZ) has published a biannual Financial Stability Report (FSR) to outline its assessment of the soundness and efficiency of our financial system.

We are delighted to have RBNZ Deputy Governor and General Manager Financial Stability, Christian Hawkesby, join us to discuss financial stability insights ahead of the publication of their May 2023 Financial Stability Report.  Christian will provide insights on the risks to the financial system and discuss the key topics that are currently relevant to New Zealand’s financial stability.

Financial resilience was identified as one of the top five issues for directors and business leaders this year. This event is an ideal opportunity for local directors to gain a more detailed understanding of the RBNZ’s financial stability role and the implications for businesses and the wider economy.

Christian Hawkesby

Christian has been with Te Pūtea Matua since 2019. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Governor/General Manager Financial Stability Group, Christian was the Assistant Governor and General Manager of Economics, Financial Markets and Banking.

He is a Rangiora High School old boy and graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Master of Commerce (Hons) majoring in Economics.
