Overview

Boards have a critical role to play in taking action on climate-related issues and reducing the environmental impact of their organisations. Mandatory reporting of climate-related financial disclosures is just around the corner and now is the time to be getting your house in order. But what does that mean and how do we do this well?

This directors' discussion will be led by Rebbecca Page who is a connector for the Sustainable Business Network and also principal and founder of Green Start. She will be joined by John McArthur, principal of The Carbon Shop who was also the Carbon Reporting Manager for the Fletcher Building global enterprise.

The group will be limited to 12 attendees. After the brief presentations, the emphasis will be on sharing ideas and expertise in a roundtable discussion that involves everyone present. Coffee and a light lunch will be provided.

All of this has led to her being able to blend hands-on knowledge with academic learning enabling her clients to improve their sustainable development in a meaningful way.

Rebbecca is currently a candidate for Master of Professional Practice, a business mentor, University of Waikato Impact Hub partner and co-founder and facilitator of Taupō Sustainable Businesses.

John McArthur

Was born and raised in Christchurch and completed formal education with a BSc (Hons) from Canterbury University. After two years as a research chemist and a year or so of OE he took the role of Quality Manager at Whakatane Board Mills and spent the next 18 years in quality management at Whakatane and in a Scottish papermill.

He returned to New Zealand to become the Quality Manager of Hamilton City Council before joining Fletcher Wood Panels as Quality Systems Manager – later morphing nto Quality and Environmental Systems Manager for Laminex New Zealand and Laminex Australia. This too evolved into Carbon Reporting Manager for the entire Fletcher Building global enterprise. As a corporate role this required good relationships with New Zealand and Australian government departments involved in Climate Change response.

At the end of 2016 he set up his own company- The Carbon Shop - with the objective of helping individuals and small businesses understand their part in the climate change issue - both their footprint contribution to the problem, and the ways which they can reduce that impact.
