About the survey

Our annual Directors' Fees Survey is crucial to understanding remuneration trends and governance practices across all service sectors. As a part of our governance community, your input is essential in ensuring transparency around directors' fees – including where directors volunteer their time or receive no remuneration. This information helps support directors and boards to benchmark fees appropriately and understand directors' duties. Whether you serve in a paid or voluntary capacity, your participation provides valuable insights for the entire governance community.  

The survey results contribute to the annual IoD Directors’ Fees Report.  

Why complete the survey?

    • so your voice is captured and contributes to building an accurate picture of remuneration trends in New Zealand.
    • free copy of the executive highlights of the survey results after the IoD Directors' Fees Report is published
    • preferential rate for the full IoD Directors' Fees Report
    • IoD members can log two CPD points for participating in the survey. These points can be self-logged in your  CPD dashboard in the My Profile section of the website.

How to access the survey

Our survey partner EY manage the survey on our behalf. The survey is open to both members and non-members.

IoD members will receive an email invitation from EY on 1 April 2026. Simply click on your unique survey link to get started. 

Not a member or haven’t received an email but would like to participate? Please contact us at governanceservices@iod.org.nz, and we'll send you all the details you need to participate. 

The survey closes on 7 May 2026.

How to complete the survey

  1. EY will email all IoD members a unique password which can be used to log in to the survey. This email will be sent on the 1 April 2026. If you do not receive an email, please check your spam folder. If you do not receive the email and wish to participate in the survey, contact us at governanceservices@iod.org.nz  
  2. Click on the link in the email sent by EY. This will direct you to a portal on the EY website
  3. Log in using your email address and the password EY sent in the email
  4. Click 'client login' (not 'EY Staff') to log in
  5. You will then be asked to change your password. Use the same password EY sent you as the ‘old password’ and then choose a new password.

If you participated in the previous survey, the answer fields will be pre-populated with your answers from last year. You can update any details that have changed. 

Privacy

Your data is confidential. No individual will be identifiable in the published results.
