Action over anxiety: why climate-conscious boards are on safer legal ground
Daniel Street urges directors to prioritise climate governance – and not be paralysed by fear of litigation.
The 2025 global report from the GNDI provides a snapshot of how boards are preparing and responding to climate related risks and opportunities.
Climate change is no longer a peripheral concern — it’s a core governance issue. This global report from the Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI), representing over 150,000 directors across 26 institutes, provides a snapshot of how boards are preparing for and responding to climate-related risks, opportunities, and disclosure expectations. Drawing on international survey data and global director insights, it explores board capability gaps, emerging climate disclosure frameworks, and the strategic integration of climate into governance practices. The report offers practical questions and insights to help directors build climate oversight maturity and position their organisations for long-term value creation and resilience.
This report was created under the oversight of the Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI), led by Chair Kirsten Patterson, with significant input from the Institute of Directors' Principal Advisor Governance Leadership Judene Edgar - drawing on content from across our GNDI partners and contributions from the GNDI Policy Committee
