Former IoD past-president, Peter Clapshaw, passed away last weekend on 23 June.

An IoD Distinguished Fellow, Peter had been a partner and consultant for Simpson Grierson. His main area of practice was in business law and advisory work on corporate matters.

Prior to joining the IoD, Peter was President of the Auckland District Law Society (1982 - 1983), before becoming President of the New Zealand Law Society (1995 - 1998).

It was in the early nineties that he became President of the Institute of Directors New Zealand where he held the role from 1991 to 1993.

The IoD was notified of Peter’s passing by Geoffrey Bowes, the first CEO of the Institute of Directors who notes Peter’s incredible contribution to the IoD and governance:

He was an outstanding chairman who had also been chairman of the Law Society before coming to us. Peter wrote the very first code of conduct for directors in the world and made some amazing changes to the IoD.
- Geoffrey Bowes

As an organisation, and in memory of Peter's contribution to the IoD, we pass on our thoughts and thanks to Peter’s family. The funeral is taking place today, 27 June at midday.
