Alec Tang joined The Aotearoa Circle in September 2026 as its second Chief Executive, bringing more than two decades of experience across sustainability, climate, risk, business and governance. As CE, his focus is working with their Partners from across the public and private sectors to accelerate action on one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s defining challenges: reversing the continued degradation of our natural capital and unlocking the economic and environmental opportunities that come from restoring it. Alec believes the health of our land, water, soil, biodiversity and other natural systems is fundamental to New Zealand’s productivity, resilience and long-term prosperity. He is driven by The Circle’s vision and the opportunity to translate ambition into action at the pace and scale required by 2035. At the heart of that is a belief in what is possible if we get this right: a more resilient and productive economy, stronger businesses and communities, and an Aotearoa New Zealand where restoring nature strengthens our prosperity for generations to come. Alec is a Chartered Environmentalist and Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, a Chapter Zero Steering Committee Member and sits on the External Reporting Board (XRB)’s Sustainability Reporting Board.
