Module 4
Monitoring what matters

Overview
In this module we bring together all the learnings from the last three modules, to highlight the role of governance in monitoring the right things, in the most effective manner.
We begin by discussing the different performance metrics available and the balance of lag and lead indicators required to ensure we aren’t focusing on incidents within silos. Effective governance means driving the narrative from the top down to ensure officers are asking and receiving information that is critical for the best decision making to occur.
We will explore the different tools available to assess and measure critical occupational health and safety risks and the key attributes of a health and safety performance framework.
Using the Three Lines of Defence, we will consider two common risks agencies face, and work through how good governance seeks assurances that systems and processes are being followed and that controls are effective in practice.
Finally, we reflect on the programme as a whole, your learnings and the actions you will take in the future.
