Overview

In the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle and its devastating economic and social impact on the Hawke’s Bay region, a robust and sustainable recovery plan is required to move forward.

Join our panellists, Alasdair MacLeod (Chair, Hawke’s Bay Regional Economic Development Agency) and Blair O’Keeffe (Chair, Hawke’s Bay Regional Recovery Agency) to understand how the plan to build back better, safer and smarter will come together.

Alasdair MacLeod

Alasdair MacLeod is a former fisherman from the West Coast of Scotland, who graduated to driving double-decker buses around Glasgow before fleeing the country to start again in NZ. In Gisborne, he was a digger driver, truck driver and drain-layer before moving to Wellington. In Wellington, he ran NZ’s first national electricity retail company, was a senior exec in a big IT company, and for many years a Partner in a Big Four entity…but not all at the same time.

Since early retirement 12 years ago, Alasdair’s chaired Napier Port through an interesting period, including an IPO and a fairly big construction project, chaired TradeWindow (interesting doesn’t even get close), chaired several other technology companies including Silverstripe which he still chairs, and in his spare time he’s the chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawke’s Bay and the recently formed Hawke’s Bay Regional Economic Development Agency.

Alasdair is a Chartered member of the Institute of Directors.

Blair O’Keeffe

Blair is a Hawke’s Bay based company director and board advisor, with governance experience in central and local government, NZX-listed companies, and private entities.

He is a former Chair of a Crown Entity, and is a former Chief Executive with more than 25 years of local and international senior executive experience, including infrastructure, energy, retail, property, transport and local government.

Blair is currently Chair of the Hawke’s Bay Regional Recovery Agency, Napier Port and the Hawke’s Bay Rescue Helicopter Trust, and is a board member of Unison Networks, Central Air Ambulance Rescue and Z Energy. He also operates a board/commercial advisory business.

Blair is a member of the Institute of Directors and holds a BBS (Hons).
