Overview

With her term having recently concluded, we are delighted Dame Patsy is joining us to share some of her highlights during her term as Governor General.  We’ll also hear what’s involved in holding New Zealand's most prominent governance role and Dame Patsy’s views on the future of governance in New Zealand.

Dame Patsy Reddy

The Right Honourable Dame Patsy Reddy GNZM CVO QSO DStJ DistFInstD served as the 21st Governor-General of New Zealand from 2016 – 2021.

Prior to this, her extensive governance roles included chair of the New Zealand Film Commission and Education Payroll Ltd, deputy chair of the New Zealand Transport Agency and SKYCITY Entertainment Group, a director of Southern Petroleum, Telecom Corporation of New Zealand, New Zealand Post, Air New Zealand and Payments NZ.

Dame Patsy was also a chief Crown negotiator for Treaty of Waitangi settlements, a lead reviewer for the Performance Improvement Framework for the State Services Commission and she undertook a major review of Security and Intelligence Laws with Sir Michael Cullen in 2015.

She has also been involved in a number of charitable and not for profit organisations, particularly in the arts and gender equality. She was one of the founding members of Global Women New Zealand, a group of prominent women who advocate for inclusion and diversity in leadership.

Last year, the Institute of Directors’ awarded its highest accolade of Distinguished Fellow to Dame Patsy, in recognition of her outstanding contribution in governance to New Zealand business and society.
