Overview

COVID-19 is having an impact on a global level; in business, in communities and at home and during this time many of us are having to self-isolate and work remotely from home. This presents many challenges as it can be a very lonely and isolating time, and many will find it hard to maintain normality.

Join us for this coffee cart session to share your experiences and also for some advice, useful ideas and tips we can all use on resilience and how to manage our wellbeing and physical health during this period.

Panel

Hon Andrew Little

Minister of Justice, for Courts, and Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations.

Minister Responsible for the GCSB, NZSIS, and Pike River Re-entry.

From bake sales to the Beehive, Hon Andrew Little has devoted his whole life to advocating for New Zealanders.

Growing up in New Plymouth, Andrew organised a cake-stall fundraiser for hungry and homeless African children. After university, where he studied law and philosophy, Andrew headed the Victoria University Students’ Association and New Zealand Union of Students Associations where he marched for better access to affordable education.

After graduation Andrew became a lawyer with the Engineers Union, ensuring employers lived up to their employment obligations to treat their staff with dignity and respect. In 2000, he was appointed EPMU national secretary and led New Zealand’s largest private sector union for a decade.

Andrew entered Parliament in 2011 with a mission to leave behind a better country – a New Zealand where everyone has the opportunities he and his wife, Leigh, wish for their teenage son, Cam.

As Leader of the Opposition (2014 – 2017) Andrew stood alongside unions and workers to successfully end zero-hours contracts.

David Downs

David’s background as a stand-up comedian makes him an unlikely board member, but he’s discovered that having a varied career helps bring a fresh perspective to the conversations. From not-for-profits, to commercial boards, to government departments – we could all benefit from a creative approach to governance.

In his ‘day job’, David Downs is a General Manager at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), working with the Technology sector to help fast growing tech companies grow internationally, and leading a cross-government project for the Agritech sector. David has held various roles at NZTE, in the Services, Customer and Corporate Services teams.

He’s an ex-comedian, TV and Radio actor, and a genetically modified organism who documented his battle with cancer in the book A Mild Touch of the Cancer. David regularly presents and gives talks on his cancer journey and on the power of positive thinking and optimism.

Paul Rangiwahia

Paul is Taranaki born and bred. At 46 he has a few Km’s on the clock and with that comes knowledge, experiences, highs, lows and plenty in between. This helps Paul, as a wellbeing advocate, to communicate plenty of useful ideas and tips to help others find their best mental health and wellbeing. A lot of what Paul shares is common sense so in a time where common sense is not that common, Paul is finding his style and delivery popular with others.
