Professor Richard Barker will look at the governance challenges of family owned businesses.
Family businesses are among the most common and successful worldwide but they come with their own special governance challenges. In this Director Dialogue we discuss the roles that directors play in resolving these challenges and the associated risks from the standpoint of both shareholding and independent directors.
This event is also being held in person, in Dunedin. If you would like to attend the in person event register here.
Professor Richard Barker is Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Sciences at the University of Otago. He got into corporate governance by accident as a shareholder representative in a large-scale family-centred dairy farming business. Feeling under-educated he set out to get as much governance training through the IoD as he could, and was awarded the Otago Southland Branch Emerging Director Award in 2016. He is former director and chair of Hopkins Farming Group Ltd, and is currently a director of Dinsdale Ltd and Oritain Global Ltd.
Regrettably, registration fees cannot be refunded when cancellations are received within two working days prior to any branch event.
