Overview

The Acumen Edelman Trust Barometer looks at trust in the institutions of Business, Government, NGOs and media. The global Barometer has been running for 24 years across 29 countries and New Zealand has been part of the research since 2016.

The global research has been released and can be found here . In this panel conversation the discussion will cover:

  • Trust in Aotearoa New Zealand in the global context
  • A closer look at trust in local institutions – Business, Government, NGOs & Media
  • Innovation and its impact on trust – implementation is as important as invention
  • Trust in leadership and the opportunities for businesses
  • How as directors, you can influence trust and help protect social licence to operate

Kirsten (KP) Patterson will facilitate the discussion with a panel of directors, who will share their observations based on the research and their perspectives on the potential implications for directors and governance in Aotearoa New Zealand. There will be an opportunity for discussion and Q&A.

Adelle Keely

With 20 years in communications, Adelle is an expert at working with organisations to evolve, strengthen and protect their brands and reputations.​ Her diverse experience spans New Zealand, the UK and the US including infrastructure, ICT, FMCG, financial services, professional services and health & wellbeing sectors.

Her strength is understanding how brands, consumers, business, Government and communities interact and how to operate in politicised and sensitive environments. She connects communications activity with clients’ purpose and commercial drivers and has extensive corporate and marketing communications capability including business advice, strategy, developing narratives & story-telling, issues & crisis management, capital markets, stakeholder & influencer engagement, brand campaigns, internal communications and media training.

Scott Pickering

MInstD

Scott is an experienced Non Executive Director and CEO with over 30 years global business experience. He currently sits on the Boards of Kiwibank and ASX Listed Insurance Australia Group (IAG) and IAG New Zealand Ltd - the largest general insurer in Australia and New Zealand. 

In addition he is an external advisor to global management consulting firm Bain & Co and employee benefits company HealthNow Ltd and runs his own management and leadership consulting company - Engage Consulting Limited. 

Between May 2013 and June 2021 Scott was Chief Executive of the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) leading and delivering the most significant transformation for the Corporation in its 50 year history.

Scott was formerly regional Chief Executive Officer for global insurance brokers, Willis Towers Watson, for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to Willis Towers Watson, Scott worked for Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance as regional Chief Executive for Asia, India and the Middle East. He also held senior regional leadership and Chief Executive roles at ACE Insurance (now Chubb Insurance) and CIGNA in the Asia Pacific region and South Africa.

He is a member of the Institute of Directors New Zealand and the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance
