Robin Mellon explores how boards and management can build sustainable and resilient organisations.
Boards and executives are operating in a period of accelerating change where environmental and social pressures, geopolitical dynamics, shifting expectations and system-wide risks are increasingly shaping organisational performance. Climate and nature risks are no longer confined to strategy documents or disclosures — they are emerging through operating models, supply chains, standards and stakeholder relationships.
In this session, UN Global Compact Deputy Chair and CEO of Better Sydney, Robin Mellon, draws on his experience across property, infrastructure, construction and finance - including his former role as Chief Operating Officer of the Green Building Council of Australia - to explore how boards can build sustainable organisations in practice.
Robin will focus on the operating reality of governing change: how organisations adapt as norms shift ahead of regulation, where environmental risk concentrates across supply chains and built environments, and how boards can exercise meaningful oversight without drifting into management. He will reflect on what boards can reasonably ask for in terms of information and measurement, how to work with imperfect data while still making sound decisions, how resilience is built through systems rather than single initiatives, and how environmental sustainability increasingly intersects with social risk, including modern slavery, as expectations of responsible business conduct converge.
This session is designed to support directors and executives to govern and manage risk, resilience and change with clarity, realism and confidence.
