A fireside chat with Bruce Irvine.
Crises are a true test of boards and chairs. Directors may experience challenging situations outside of their experience where a poor response can result in negative, or even disastrous, consequences for companies and their stakeholders, and can extend to directors personally.
When companies face difficult or perilous times, boards are especially important. Boards are also responsible for ensuring procedures are in place to prevent or minimise crises occurring and they should also be alert to the warning signs that pre-empt a crisis.
Bruce will share some of his experiences preparing for and dealing with crises gained through a career as a professional director and chair of a range of NZX listed, private and governmental organisations.
Fireside chats are story-based, small group events where questions and discussion are actively encouraged. Due to the potentially sensitive nature of matters discussed, the Chatham House Rule will apply.
Bruce was Managing Partner at Deloitte Christchurch from 1995 to 2007 before his retirement in 2008. He is an independent chair on various boards including: Heartland Bank Limited, House of Travel Holdings Limited, Market Gardeners Limited, Rakon Limited and Skope Industries Limited. He is also a director of Scenic Hotels Ltd and Air Rarotonga Ltd.
Bruce is a Chartered Fellow of the IoD.
