Navigating Inland Revenue's expectations of tax compliance and risk management for businesses and boards
Inland Revenue has emphasised the importance of robust governance frameworks to help manage tax risks. Its recent campaigns have focussed on whether organisations have fit-for-purpose tax governance policies and tax controls, the testing of those policies and controls for their effectiveness, and extent of Board reporting on tax matters. This topic is particularly relevant for directors, given boards will have primary responsibility for ensuring there is effective oversight and management of tax risks.
Join John Nash, Strategic Advisor (International) – Inland Revenue, and Darshana Elwela, Partner – KPMG Tax Advisory, to understand the next phase of Inland Revenue’s tax governance campaign and what business (and boards) should be thinking about.
Lunch will be provided.
John Nash is a chartered accountant (BCA, FCA) and Strategic Advisor (International) at Inland Revenue. He has over 30 years of experience in international tax matters, focusing in particular on the taxation of multinational enterprises and high-income individuals.
John is currently co-chair of the OECD Working Party on Exchange of Information and Tax Compliance, and chair of the Coordinating Body of the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters.
Darshana is a Tax Partner at KPMG and has over 20 years’ experience as a tax advisor and senior IRD policy official.
Darshana is heavily involved in working with tax officials and government on various tax policy and technical matters (including on behalf of a range of clients). He is also a member of the New Zealand Tax Advisory Group of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
