A networking evening for the presentation of the Distinguished Fellow Award to David Jackson, Gavin Walker and Rodger Fisher
We look forward to celebrating our new Distinguished Fellows with a presentation and the opportunity to network over drinks and canapés.
The Distinguished Fellow Award is the IoD’s highest accolade. Distinguished Fellow awards are awarded twice annually to IoD members who have had a prominent and distinguished career as a director and have contributed positively to business and society.

M’Com (Hons), FCA, DistFInstD
David has been a professional director for 20 years and is currently an independent director of Mitre 10 (New Zealand) Limited. He is also Chairman of The Dame Malvina Major Foundation.
David was previously Chair of The New Zealand Refining Company Limited and Tegel Foods Limited, an independent director of Nuplex Industries Limited, Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited, Pumpkin Patch Limited and Mediaworks Limited. He was also a member of the Securities Commission.
His professional career as an audit partner with EY spanned 33 years, including a period as chair. His focus was to major national and international clients including export focused agribusiness, fast moving consumable goods, retail, forestry and manufacturing clients. Through his professional career he has had extensive international experience in Asia, United Kingdom, USA, and South America.
A member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants since 1975, David was awarded a Fellowship in 1994 and had a significant involvement with the professional activities of the institute over many years.
ONZM, DisFInstD
Gavin has spent the best part of his career working in the financial services industry in which he held senior leadership and governance roles both in New Zealand and Australia.
He was the founding CEO/Managing Director of Bankers Trust New Zealand and subsequently appointed CEO of Bankers Trust Investment Bank Australia as well as being a member of Bankers Trust New York’s Global Business Council.
Upon returning to New Zealand in early 2000 he embarked on a successful governance career both within the financial services industry and more broadly. Gavin has previously been Guardian/Chair of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, Director/Chair of ASB Bank and Chair of Sovereign Insurance (now AIA New Zealand). He was also Chair of Australasia’s largest online equity broker CommSec.
Gavin held governance positions in the consumer goods industry and in particular Lion Dairy and Drinks and chaired the Global Advisory Board of Japan’s Kirin Beverages. He also chaired the joint venture Steering Committee on behalf of Crown Fibre Holdings and Chorus which had oversight of the build, ownership, and operation of the UFB network awarded to Chorus.
Gavin has also held governance roles for New Zealand Rugby and the Arts Foundation.
In 2016 Gavin was made an Officer of the Order of Merit (ONZM) for his services to business and government. He was also appointed a Fellow of the Institute of Finance Professionals NZ in 2021.
DistFInstD
Rodger was Managing Director of publicly listed companies, Mogal Corporation from 1983 to 1987, and the Owens Group from 1987 to 1999.
Recently retired, he has been Chair of WEL Networks, Ultrafast Fibre, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Aviation Security Service, Lyttelton Port Company, The Property Group, the Auckland Blues, and a director of Ports of Auckland, Tenon (previously Fletcher Forests ), Waste Management, Unison Networks, Auckland Rugby, Eden Park Trust Board, and the Waitematā Health Board.
Rodger is a Fellow of Governance New Zealand, a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of the Institute of Logistics and Transport in New Zealand.
