IoD Directors' Fees Report

Access valuable insights around board remunerations and director duties produced every year in conjunction with EY.

Directors' fee survey 2023 now open

The Institute of Directors (IoD) and EY have been combining our expertise and resources for the past nine years to produce the annual Directors’ Fees Survey and report. In 2023 we had a record number of respondents with input from 1,124 IoD members, 1,695 organisations and 3,951 directorships. The 2024 Directors' Fees Survey is now open and will close on 20 May. For any questions on how to participate please visit us here. The survey is open both to members and non-members.

The report provides valuable insights to support directors and boards, and raises awareness of governance practices and trends. It offers the opportunity to understand board remuneration trends and provides benchmarks to help benchmark your fees in a New Zealand context.

The full report which is available for purchase covers the following:

  • fees across categories like organisation type, size, and industry
  • hours of work and hourly rates across board roles and fee categories
  • board composition and practices
  • directors’ fees practice including non-remuneration offerings
  • fee movements and trends and
  • market insights and regulatory updates.
