Marama Royal (MInstD) was born in Ōrākei and raised by her grandmother and says Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is where her heart is. She loves her whenua (land), her moana (sea), and every day is reminded of the footprints of her tūpuna (ancestors) when gazing across Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri (Tribal territories of Ngāti Whātua ki Tāmaki) from her Papakāinga (village) in Ōrākei.
