Overview

There is increasingly record levels of private equity capital raised and invested in New Zealand and all round the world, with over $3.9 billion invested in New Zealand in 2020 and 2021 combined.  Globally, private equity has over US$1.2 trillion of “dry powder” available to invest, including over $1 billion spread among New Zealand’s private equity firms.

In New Zealand, private equity features as an owner or investor in a diverse range of businesses, including industries that span healthcare, technology, infrastructure, consumer products, manufacturing, and tourism.

In his presentation, Pioneer Capital’s Craig Styris will discuss private equity generally and some of the considerations for directors and business owners as they contemplate raising capital or selling a shareholding to a private equity firm.

Craig Styris

Craig joined Pioneer Capital in 2008 soon after the firm’s establishment and leads sourcing and managing investments.  He is currently a director of Rockit Global, Bluelab, Laybuy, Tom & Luke and Magic Memories and was previously a director of Natural Pet Food Group, Pet Doctors, Pukeko Pictures, Moa Group and INRO.  He is also a New Zealand Private Capital Association council member.  Prior to Pioneer Capital, Craig was an Associate Director at Craigs Investment Partners and an Associate at Houlihan Lokey in Los Angeles.
