Overview

In this session, Nagaja Sanatkumar will share insights from her board roles that include Meridian Energy, Foodstuffs NI, NZ Post and our own Cawthron, as well as her prior executive roles at Amazon, Expedia and Icebreaker, helping to demystify why boards can find technology a difficult space to govern, and some tips on what the key questions are that boards and executives should ask. 

Nagaja Sanatkumar

Nagaja is a professional non-executive Director with 25 years international executive and leadership experience in growing consumer-facing businesses through technological innovation, operational excellence, and organisational scale.

Nagaja has a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and an MBA from University of Washington, Seattle. Through progressively senior leadership roles for large-scale commercial and technology powerhouses (notably Amazon and Expedia), a well as pioneering retail brands, she has expertise in general management, strategy, digital technology, ecommerce, customer-led innovation, and profitable growth across a variety of industry verticals and corporate structures. Nagaja moved to NZ from the USA in 2015, and  is now committed to governance roles at New Zealand Post, Meridian Energy, FoodStuffs North Island, Tuatahi First Fibre, Cawthron Institute and Groov.

Nagaja is currently pursuing a Masters in Sustainable Development Goals at Massey University, with a specialisation in Economics and Sustainability.
