Overview

The Acumen Edelman Trust Barometer looks at trust in the institutions of Business, Government, NGOs and media. The global Barometer has been running for 22 years across 29 countries and New Zealand has been part of the research since 2016.

The global research has already been released and can be found here. In this panel conversation we will discuss how New Zealand compares with the rest of the world, in particular the likes of Australia. The discussion will cover:

  • Trust in Aotearoa New Zealand in the global context
  • A closer look at trust in local institutions – Business, Government, NGOs & Media
  • Trust in leadership and the opportunities for businesses
  • How as directors, you can influence trust and help protect social licence to operate

Facilitated by Kirsten (KP) Patterson, Craig Stobo and Rob Campbell will share their observations based on the research and their perspectives on the potential implications for directors and governance in Aotearoa New Zealand and there will be an opportunity for discussion and Q&As.

Our speakers

Adelle Keely

With 20 years in communications, Adelle is an expert at working with organisations to evolve, strengthen and protect their brands and reputations.​ Her diverse experience spans New Zealand, the UK and the US including infrastructure, ICT, FMCG, financial services, professional services and health & wellbeing sectors.

Her strength is understanding how brands, consumers, business, Government and communities interact and how to operate in politicised and sensitive environments. She connects communications activity with clients’ purpose and commercial drivers and has extensive corporate and marketing communications capability including business advice, strategy, developing narratives & story-telling, issues & crisis management, capital markets, stakeholder & influencer engagement, brand campaigns, internal communications and media training.

Craig Stobo, CFInstD

Craig Stobo was educated in New Zealand at Waitaki Boys High School (Milner Prize); Otago University (BA Hons First Class in Economics); and at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania (Advanced Management Programme).

He has worked as a diplomat for the NZ and Australian Governments; as an economist for DFC/Zealcorp; as economist and an interest rates products manager for Bankers Trust NZ; and also as CEO and Executive Vice President for BT Funds Management NZ Ltd until 2004 after leading its establishment in 1992.

These currently include chairing the NZX –listed company Precinct Properties New Zealand Ltd (including its corporatisation in 2010 and management internalisation in 2021); chairing the Local Government Funding Agency since its inception in 2011; and chairing AIG Insurance New Zealand Ltd since its licensing as a general insurer in 2012. He has also chaired transport and logistics company Fliway Group Ltd leading up to and during its IPO on the NZX and until its delisting in January 2018.

He chairs global equity investor Elevation Capital Management; national investment advisory firm Saturn Portfolio Management; oyster farmer and exporter Biomarine Ltd; and specialist Bannockburn grape grower Legend Terrace; and is a director of fund administrator Appello Services Ltd.

Rob Campbell, CFInstD

Rob Campbell is a professional director and investor. His current directorships include Chair of Ara Ake Ltd, SkyCity Entertainment Group Ltd, Summerset, Tourism Holdings Ltd, WEL Networks and NZ Rural Land Company, and director of Precinct Properties, Ultrafast Fibre Ltd and Serica Balanced Credit Fund (Hong Kong). He is also an advisory board member of VGI Partners (US, Australia).

In 2019, Rob was awarded the Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM). He was also awarded the NZ Shareholders Association Beacon Award and the Deloitte NZ Chair of the Year Award in 2017.
