What are the benefits of introducing an effective governance structure into your organisation?
Especially in the case of owner operator and family owned businesses, owners often delay improving governance until some critical issue arises or until some point in the future when they are “big enough.” As a result, these businesses can miss out on key tools and solutions that separate their ownership of the business from working in the business - and significantly improve their competitive survival and growth.
Join us to discuss how introducing an effective governance structure helped Timaru-based Industrial Controls grow from an owner operated SME to one of the region's foremost providers of industrial electrical automation systems. More of a journey than destination, we will look at the challenges and advantages of moving from informal oversight by owners to introducing a governance framework with a board and independent chair.
Ross is the inaugural, independent board chair at Industrial Controls (South Canterbury) Ltd. Ross has also served on a number of boards including Kai Tahu Kai Otago and Otago Rugby Union. As an experienced director and governance advisor, Ross has been an active member of the Institute of Directors since 2009 and is often called on, in an ex-officio capacity, to advise boards on their governance and performance management processes.
Ross has held senior HR manager and consulting roles across multiple sectors including manufacturing, retail, professional services firms, primary sector, local government, health and education. He has also run his own HR consultancy for a number of years working across both private and public sector organisations.
