Your guide to Boardroom changes

From its beginnings in 1987 as a humble newsletter to the award-winning, nationally recognised magazine it is today, Boardroom has continually evolved to reflect the changing face of governance in Aotearoa. From November 2025, Boardroom will take its next step forward by moving fully digital, with the Spring 2025 edition in September marking the final print issue.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about Boardroom's shift to fully digital.

The shift to digital

Why Boardroom is moving to digital-only

Why the move to digital-only?

This change is shaped by our members. When we asked members last year whether you wanted to keep receiving a printed magazine, we had strong support to move to digital as a positive way forward.

Going digital means you’ll get more timely updates, more practical insights and more variety in how you can engage – whether that’s reading in-depth articles, listening to a podcast or catching a quick video update.

Less printing also means a lighter footprint, while ensuring resources are focused where they matter most: delivering insights and tools you can use.

When will the last print issue of Boardroom be released?

The final printed issue of Boardroom will be the Spring 2025 edition, delivered in September.

Is this change permanent?

Yes. From November 2025, Boardroom content will be delivered digitally only.

What happens between the final print issue in September and November 2025?

You’ll continue to find Boardroom content on the IoD website. From November 2025, the digital-only experience will be fully in place under the Boardroom umbrella online.

Boardroom Premium explained

Your exclusive space for in-depth governance news and analysis.

What can I expect from Boardroom in the new digital format?

As part of this transition, we’re reshaping how governance content is delivered to create a richer, more seamless experience. Boardroom will become the central hub on our website for governance news and insights, giving you a clear and familiar place to find everything in one spot. Within this, we’re introducing Boardroom Premium – exclusively for IoD members.

What will I find in Boardroom Premium?

Boardroom Premium will include the in-depth content you’d expect from the magazine features, analysis, commentary and regular series available exclusively to IoD members. The digital format also means we can offer more, including bonus columns, extended interviews and multimedia content such as podcasts and videos all published as soon as they’re ready.

Will the content still be the same quality as the magazine?

Yes. You’ll continue to receive the same trusted, practical insights Boardroom is known for, with the added benefit of more frequent updates, new series, in-depth features and richer formats.

Yes. Sponsor insights will continue to be part of Boardroom, alongside our core governance content.

How do I access it?

Content

What you’ll see in the digital format.

How will I know when new content is available?

We’ll keep you updated through Director Download, branch newsletters and our social channels, especially LinkedIn. You can also visit the News section of our website anytime to see the latest content.

I’m not receiving Director Download – how do I opt in?

Update your email preferences in your IoD profile and tick ‘governance news and insights’ to receive Director Download.

How often will new content be published?

Instead of waiting for quarterly issues, new content will be added as soon as it’s ready keeping insights timely and relevant.

Can I share articles with colleagues?

You can share links to open-access articles. Member-only Boardroom Premium articles require a login.

How does this change affect my CPD?

Can I still claim CPD points for reading Boardroom?

Yes. Members can continue to log up to 10 CPD points a year for keeping current on governance topics.

In the past, this included reading the four quarterly print editions of Boardroom magazine. From November 2025, this will shift to reading Boardroom Premium content online.

Does the move to digital change the number of points I can log?

No. The entitlement remains the same — up to 10 CPD points per year. The only change is that it will now be tied to engaging with Boardroom Premium content, instead of the print magazine.
