Chartered accountant Julia Fink has been named the Institute of Directors' Wellington branch Emerging Director 2019.

Julia is the CFO of Upper Hutt City Council, where she oversees the finance, legal and IT teams. She started her career at Deloitte as an auditor and has always had a particular interest in the financial statements of not-for-profit entities. This led her to her previous role at the Department of Internal Affairs' Charities Services, where she worked with staff and charities to understand the public benefit entity standards which became applicable to registered charities in 2016.

Julia has served on the boards of three charities as treasurer and is passionate about using external reporting as an effective stakeholder communication device. She also sits on the board of the External Reporting Board (XRB) and is a New Zealand Regional Councillor of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand

In choosing Julia for this annual award, the judges said she had a pragmatic personality and understood the need to develop new skills in order to overcome new challenges.

"Julia was very well organised in her approach and had a good track record across a range of sectors," the judges said.

"We liked her open and pragmatic personality and her willingness to learn new things. These characteristics will be valuable to her on her governance journey."

Julia says she is delighted to receive this year's IoD Wellington Branch Emerging Director Award and is very excited about making the most of the opportunity to broaden her experience and to become more involved with the IoD.
